Dynegy Selected to Power Chicago鈥檚 Iconic Willis Tower with Wind Energy

An American icon has a new glow tonight. Dynegy has entered into a multi-year partnership with Chicago鈥檚 Willis Tower to provide the 110-story skyscraper with 100% renewable electricity.

The contract with Dynegy ensures that 100% of Willis Tower鈥檚 electricity comes from wind power via聽renewable energy credits and was signed as this Chicago treasure undergoes the biggest restorative project in its history.聽As part of the transformation, tower ownership, EQ Office, has made significant energy, sustainability and comfort upgrades throughout the building, making Willis Tower the largest building in the U.S. to achieve the U.S. Green Building Council Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Platinum certification.

Throughout the renovation project, sustainability has been top of mind for EQ Office senior vice president and portfolio director, David Moore. David explains, 鈥淥ur partnership with Dynegy is one of the many ways we鈥檙e continuing our commitment to creating sustainable experiences in and around Willis Tower. Part of EQ鈥檚 mission is making smart, green choices that improve the space around us.鈥

Gabe Castro is senior vice president of business markets for Dynegy. During his time with the company, he鈥檚 grown partnerships with Chicago鈥檚 McCormick Place convention center, the Chicago Cubs and Wrigley Field. Gabe says all of these relationships start with understanding the unique operational needs of buildings that draw visitors on this scale, and then creating tailored solutions for the customer. In this case, Gabe says, 鈥淒ynegy is providing safe, reliable power to Willis Tower 鈥 keeping the lights on, computers humming, and restaurants running 鈥 365 days a year. The fact that we can do that, while supporting some of the boldest sustainability goals in America is an absolute win in my book.鈥
